About Spike Remover

Spike Remove is a simple utility for removing overflow spikes from audio files.

Overflow spikes are the result of a conversion from a larger precision format (usually floating point) to integer PCM samples where clipping has not been correctly applied. Spikes are detected as individual samples that are in similar absolute magnitude, but in different signs (ie: one sample is a large positive, and the other is a large negative).

It supports the following file formats:

  • AIFF/AIFC
  • WAVE
  • Sound Designer II
  • Linear PCM files - no support for compressed AIFC/WAVE files.
  • Mono or Stereo files

Files must also have read/write permission in order to be processed. Any read only files will be scanned, but the results will not be saved to disk.
